On Thursday May 10th, 1945, a Short Stirling LK147 from 196 Squadron with a crew of 6 men and 14 members of The Border Regiment 1 Airborne Battalion crashed while attempting to land at Gardermoen. All on board were killed and buried in a small cemetery near the crash site. In late November 1945, six months after the crash, the 20 men were exhumed and transferred to Vestre gravlund civil Cemetery in Oslo, where they rest today. |
